About the project

This project was intended to be my passion project. When 2020 struck, prom was cancelled two days before it was scheduled to happen. My dress was shoved into a box until I had the courage to face the circumstances. My vision for the project was not only to wear the dress, but to express that I was now on a venture to explore unchartered lands as the pandemic continued and I was now leaving high school and experiencing college for the first time.

How was it made?

The top of the dress was made from part of a Simplicity pattern that was originally for a full gown. I made edits to the pattern to close off the top at the waist seam, and installed a separating zipper instead of the originally suggested invisible zipper.

The skirt of the dress was an original pattern I drafted of a 2/3 circle skirt. I split one of the thirds to create a slit in the front.
